Sessions for Accompanying Drivers

It is recognised that learner drivers who have the opportunity to get out and drive between their lessons do develop their confidence and skills more rapidly than those who don't have that luxury.  But often family members or friends who would like to give a learner driver that opportunity feel either nervous about teaching 'bad habits' or whether they can ensure the safety of themselves and others when accompanying a learner driver.

It is with this in mind that we offer structured sessions for people who would like to act as accompanying drivers.  This usually involves one 2 hour session, where we can observe your driving in case there is anything you need to be aware of trying not to pass on (some things have changed in the last ten years in what an Examiner will be looking for in a candidate's driving, for example they do not like to see people change down through all the gears and use the engine to slow the car!).  Then we will act as a 'learner driver' for you to sit next to, so we can give you some pointers on how to control the situation.  We can also advise you on what sort of roads to take the learner on during each stage of their learning process, to avoid either of you encountering a confidence sapping incident.

Whilst it is not possible to turn you into a Driving Instructor in a single session (and remember it is illegal to receive any kind of payment for giving a driving 'lesson' unless you are a qualified and registered Instructor! - Being at least a 'PDI' or an 'ADI') we can help you to help 'your' learner get through the process of learning to drive much more effectively, and with a lot less stress!
